My pastor has mentioned several times in his sermons that "just because grandma said it don't make it Biblical." For instance, my mom's favorite saying is "God helps those who help themselves." Benjamin Franklin used to say that. But, it is nowhere in the Bible.
I remember when I was reading the Bible for the first time as a child. Mom wanted me to clean my room and quoted that "Cleanliness is next to Godliness". She said, "THAT is in the Bible, so you need to do it." Determined to prove her wrong, I read every word of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
Guess what? I proved her wrong -- but I still got into trouble. LOL
